Less than a year after the end of his Manchester United adventure, Jose Mourinho returns to the Premier League as the new Tottenham Hotspur coach.

The English media left little room for doubt after the dismissal of Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday night. All made Jose Mourinho the favourite to succeed Mauricio Pochettino as the head of the Spurs.

It was therefore no surprise that the London-based club announced on Wednesday the appointment of the Portuguese technician on the bench in London.

“We are delighted to announce the arrival of Jose Mourinho as coach for a contract that runs until the end of the season 2022-23,” announced the finalist of the last Champions League.

“With Jose, we have one of the greatest coaches, he has a lot of experience. He can inspire the team and he’s a great tactician, and he has won titles in every club. It will bring energy and hope to the players,” added Daniel Levy, president of the Spurs.

Already 11 points behind fourth place

After two trips to Chelsea (2004-07 then 2013-15) and a less conclusive experience with Manchester United (2016-2019), despite a victory in the League Cup and another in the Europa League, Jose Mourinho, three-time winner of the Premier League with the Blues (2005, 2006, 2015), is preparing to lead a third English team in his career.

“I’m excited to join a club with such a legacy and passionate fans, the quality of the team’s first team and the academy motivates me.

” Working with these players is what which attracted me ,” Mourinho said.

The task does not announce however simple for the old Madrilenian. Plummeted by a calamitous start to the season, Tottenham have collected only 14 points and are 14th in the Premier League table.

‘The Special One’s’ first assignment with the Spurs will be a London derby against West Ham on Saturday afternoon.
