Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp feels sorry for Marco Silva after his side’s 5-2 thrashing of Everton resulted in the Toffees manager losing his job.

Silva was sacked by Everton on Thursday after the club suffered a 5-2 loss in the hands of Liverpool in a Merseyside Derby on Wednesday night.

Klopp was asked if he feels for Marco Silva after the Everton boss was sacked the day after losing to the league leaders.

“Yes for sure, I feel for him. Everton is a very ambitious club with a big history,” he said.

“You have one club [Liverpool] in this city that has a slightly positive development and to try to catch up with that is always difficult. They needed positive signs and that has been tricky for all the managers who have been there.”

“It is not his fault alone, but all Evertonians know that. We had no real chance to talk after the game.”

Divock Origi scored twice in Wednesday’s game, and Klopp said, “Div is unbelievably important for us. I was really happy Roberto Martinez was there to see him.

“When he goes to Belgium, he never plays. It was good he saw that. Div needs to be in a confident mood and then everyone knows what he can do.

“It is really nice that Div can show his importance in a game like this, scoring these kinds of goals. His first goal was sensational. The third [his second goal] was a world-class goal.”
