Zlatan Ibrahimovic won’t be making a return to his former club Manchester United star despite the obvious lack of attacking depth in the Red Devils squad this season.

The Sweden striker is a free agent after leaving LA Galaxy following two seasons in Major League Soccer following his departure from Old Trafford in 2018. The 38-year-old was sensational during his first season at the Theatre of Dreams, scoring 26 goals in all competitions.

But a knee injury towards the end of his debut campaign ensured Ibrahimovic was unable to reach the same heights upon his return.

Ibrahimovic scored an astonishing 53 goals in 58 games during his time at LA Galaxy and recently insisted he believes he could still play at the highest level.

He said last month: ‘I know I could still make the difference, both in Italy and in other countries. I’d do better than the players who are there playing now.’

Ibrahimovic’s successful stint in the MLS, where he regained some of his best form, saw him quickly linked with a return to Old Trafford. United will not seek a deal for the Swedish veteran as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not want short-term fixes.

The legendary Swede doesn’t fit the club’s transfer policy any longer and even though they’re looking for a little more experience to compliment their youth, it’s still a move that doesn’t make much sense.

Ibrahimovic had lifted the Europa League and Carabao Cup with United under Jose Mourinho, and even scored the last-gasp winner against Southampton in the latter competition.
